ITEC day is commemmorated every year to reconnect with the ITEC Alumni of which there are over 500 in The Gambia. Charge d'Affaires Mr. Naba Kumar Pal and Honorary Consul General Mr. Ram Mohan spoke of the importance of the ITEC Programme in skill development of officials of government of The Gambia. The ITEC partnership between India and the Gambia has been robust. India now offers 60 ITEC slots to the Gambia every year.
ITEC Programme is one of India's flagship capacity building and resource development platform for partner countries including The Gambia. The philosophy behind the programme is that of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which means the world is one family. The professionals and people from ITEC partner countries are offered unique training courses in different centers of excellence in India which empower them with not just professional skills but prepare them for an increasingly globalized world.
His Excellency Hon’ble Dr. Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians abroad, Government of the Republic of The Gambia was represented by Permanent Secretary H.E. Ambassador Mr. Lang Yabou. Some of the ITEC Alumni shared their memories and experiences of their stay in India and how the knowledge acquired during their training helped them to contribute to their organisation. The event was attended by over 100 ITEC Alumni, senior government officials, the media and members of the Indian community in Banjul. Artists of the dance group, United India rendered dance performance on Bollywood numbers.
