Calabash Residence, a haven of tranquillity in The Gambia, is not just a collection of apartments; it's a symphony of culture, hospitality, and personal warmth guided by the vision of its owner, Mr Abdul Aziz Khan.

The name 'Calabash' holds a deep significance as it pays homage to the versatile gourd, which has a special place in Gambian daily life and is synonymous with hospitality. Used as both a vegetable and a practical utensil, the Calabash represents tradition and practicality as it is used in crafting musical instruments, eating utensils, etc., embodying the rich tapestry of Gambian culture.

Calabash's journey began in 1997 as a vibrant jazz and nightclub. A decade later, in 2007, Mr. Aziz shifted gears, transforming the vibrant nightlife spot into self-catering apartments seeking a quieter atmosphere for locals and visitors. Since opening its doors to guests in early 2009, Calabash has evolved into a multifaceted retreat, offering five studio apartments, five one-bedroom self-catering units, and five two-bedroom self-catering apartments.

The focal point of relaxation is the expansive swimming pool surrounded by beautiful gardens, inviting guests to bask in the glorious sun and unwind. The pool area has its own bar to cater to guests' needs while they are relaxing by the pool. For those seeking indoor entertainment, the air-conditioned sports lounge caters to sports enthusiasts and doubles as a cozy indoor dining space.

Overlooking the main road, the well-equipped bar is a social hub, and the restaurant serves a delightful fusion of local and Continental cuisine from 7 am to 10:30 pm. And to add a touch of delight, Calabash offers "The Beer Bucket" – buy four beers and get one free – a small token of appreciation that encapsulates the essence of this unique and welcoming retreat.

Hospitality at Calabash goes beyond amenities; it's an experience. The rooms are cleaned daily unless guests prefer otherwise, and a welcome basket awaits every arrival. Calabash is adorned with beautiful local art, crafts, and flora, giving back to the community and creating a sense of cultural immersion.

Sustainability is at the core of Calabash's operations. A borehole ensures a consistent water supply, and plans to equip all rooms with washing machines are underway. An automatic generator guarantees an uninterrupted power supply, supporting all air conditioners and washing machines.

Mr Aziz's involvement as an executive member of the Gambia Hotel Association and the Gambia Tourism and Travel Association further highlights his commitment to elevating the tourism experience in The Gambia as he is able to effortlessly connect guests with operators for trips and tours, ensuring a seamless exploration of the vibrant local culture.

Calabash Residence is more than just accommodation; it celebrates Gambian warmth and hospitality and embodies Mr Aziz's vision for a tranquil retreat with a touch of local charm and an authentic Gambian experience.

Plan your next holiday at Calabash Residence!
