The name 'Calabash' holds a deep significance as it pays homage to the versatile gourd, which has a special place in Gambian daily life and is synonymous with hospitality. Used as both a vegetable and a practical utensil, the Calabash represents tradition and practicality as it is used in crafting musical instruments, eating utensils, etc., embodying the rich tapestry of Gambian culture.
Calabash's journey began in 1997 as a vibrant jazz and nightclub. A decade later, in 2007, Mr. Aziz shifted gears, transforming the vibrant nightlife spot into self-catering apartments seeking a quieter atmosphere for locals and visitors. Since opening its doors to guests in early 2009, Calabash has evolved into a multifaceted retreat, offering five studio apartments, five one-bedroom self-catering units, and five two-bedroom self-catering apartments.
