HOTEL BAKADAJI - The New Jewel in Gambia's Crown!

My Magazine 2023/04
8 min
Hotel Bakadaji finally opened its doors to the people in Gambia on 15th February 2023.

Please don't get fooled by its facade! Only when you descend the wide stairs the hotel's grandeur hits you! Breathtaking panoramic views with tall palm trees, plants and flowers, rooms with glass-railed balconies allowing uninterrupted views of the pool and spectacular gardens below and the outdoor dining areas. A purely visual treat for anyone.

Glass railings have been installed in the first-floor balconies as glass is recyclable and chemically inert, making it an eco-friendly material. This is because Bakadaji is very focused on being environmentally friendly.

As you enter the reception, you will love the simple yet elegant ambience - white and earthy notes offset by deep green Sansevieria or snake plants in large white earthenware planters. The snake plant is an excellent oxygen-producing houseplant, and it removes air pollutants. Reflected square columns with intricate laser-cut carved detailing steal the show here.

There are 80 luxurious single and superior suites spread over 11 blocks, each named after a Gambian tribe. You will find various forms of truly stunning modern African art within the suites.

Currently, only one restaurant is open to the public - Lekukai, meaning A Place to Eat. It has three seating areas - one indoors and two in the open air for outdoorsy guests. The indoor dining is bright and airy, and the upholstery has a sunny touch, which is very welcoming. The lights, encased in bronze metal-mesh pendant lampshades, cast a warm and soothing glow across the dining area and the bar. Laser-cut detailing on the walls and bar is another highlight of the restaurant. An additional plus point is that the indoor dining opens to the outdoor dining bringing in lots of fresh air.

On the other hand, their outdoor dining has a very different touch! Mountain grey square rattan garden furniture paired with deep red upholstery to offset the glare of the natural lighting.

The third dining area is hidden from view - a small, secluded spot that sits under the tall palm trees and provides privacy from the main outdoor dining. Round rattan garden furniture in a soft sandy shade with tangerine-toned upholstery completes the look.

Lekukai serves African and Continental cuisine and it has A La Carte, a set menu, breakfast buffets, daily business lunch buffets, Saturday evening BBQs and Sunday evening buffets with pool access. An Indian restaurant is an upcoming feature at Hotel Bakadaji.

The bar features everything from chilled to hot beverages and a great selection of alcohol and liqueurs. There is indoor and patio seating - if you prefer your drinks in the open air.

The spectacular swimming pool, with a distinctive shape, is hidden from view giving privacy to the guests relaxing on the turquoise sunbeds.

Hotel Bakadaji has a fully equipped Conference Room with a projector, interpretation equipment and stationery. It has a seating capacity of up to 150 people. It also provides translation services for international conferences.

The cosy African Wellness Therapy Studio Spa has everything you need to be pampered and rejuvenated! Be it facials, hand care, foot care, head massages, waxing, nails, hair cuts (and related services), as well as body massages - they've got it all!

The gym, Fitness Garage, is a haven for fitness enthusiasts! Whether you want to work out alone or with a personal trainer, join fitness classes or learn boxing, all this is possible at the gym.

Bakadaji is the only hotel which has a wastewater treatment plant. The treated water is used to keep their gardens blooming all year round.

Hotel Bakadaji, with its sophisticated and contemporary architecture, is a must-see!

Bookings started on 1st March. Please get in touch with My Gambia for all your bookings.
