Volunteer in health professions

Are you looking for something more than just a regular vacation in an all-inclusive hotel offer? Would you like to experience real life and return home with the feeling of completing a meaningful journey? This is a call out to all health-profession workers who are ready to offer their knowledge and skills and, at the same time, learn about life which might be so much different from what you are used to.

Travelling to The Gambia can be a unique opportunity to reevaluate the important things in life. To realise that materialism might not necessarily bring happiness and that access to all the luxuries in life is not to be taken for granted.

For sure, there are more than enough possibilities to spend your vacation in The Gambia soaking up the sun and enjoying a cocktail and sandy beach, but there can be more to it. You have the opportunity to look into the lives of locals, spend time with them, live with them and offer your skills and knowledge in exchange for an unforgettable life experience.

By doing that, you will not only affect the lives of your patients directly but also allow local communities to make extra income by visiting them, spending a day with them or even deciding on a homestay experience.

Are you a physiotherapist, doctor, nurse or other health personnel? There are many opportunities to volunteer in a general hospital, private physiotherapy clinic, clinical laboratory, or psychiatric clinic. This is also a great opportunity for students in healthcare professions to get practical knowledge and learn valuable lessons that will help them in their career path forward.

There are also opportunities for veterinarians to share skills and test themselves in an environment with scarcity. Are you a veterinary student eager to gain practical knowledge? You are welcome.

How to start?

Send an email to travel@my-gambia.com. Let us know about your selected date of travel, period of stay, preferred place of stay (local family homestay, volunteer home, homestay or combination of them) and field of work. Send us your CV, and let us arrange a call to find a perfect fit for you.

How does it work?

Your holiday will only partially consist of working only. You will have more than enough opportunities to engage in free time. You can decide on an endless list of activities and trips based on responsible travel rules. You will spend time with locals and learn about the culture, values and lifestyle. Enjoy your time at one of the beautiful beaches, enjoying the warm sea and hot sun.
