Beach of the month: Kotu Beach

Our ‘’Beach of the Month’’ for January is the beautiful Kotu Beach which stretches from around Balafon Beach Resort all the way to Ninki Nanka Bar and Restaurant. Like many other beaches, Kotu boost of lovely palm trees and beautiful sandy beaches. The water in summer is warm and cooler in winter.

Come dive into the sea to prove this. It offers a lot of activities and events that will captivate you throughout your time here. It is packed with lots of hotels, bars, restaurants and activities for visitors.

 

 

PLACES TO EAT AND WINE

 

BALAFON BEACH RESORT

This beautiful hotel was opened in 2019 and has a Bantaba bar and restaurant located close to the swimming pool and next to the beach which makes it a perfect place to eat and drink.

 

NEW BAILEY’S BEACH BAR AND RESTAURANT

This beautiful beach bar and restaurant is open from 8:30 am till late. It offers food and drinks and also provides sunbeds and umbrellas for its customers. They have kids play area with slides, swings and toys for kids to play with.

 

SOLOMONS BEACH BAR

This beach bar is located right on the sea and offers sunbeds and umbrellas for customers to enjoy while ordering a drink or food at the perfect easily accessible location. 

 

KALIMBA BEACH RESORT

Located directly on the beach of the Atlantic Ocean this adults-only hotel offers guests the choice of unspoilt and unparalleled sea views or balcony rooms with direct pool access.

 

SUNPRIME TAMALA BEACH RESORT

This hotel is one the most famous hotel currently in The Gambia. It has a beach lounge that has the ocean on one side and a bright pool on the other where you can always enjoy a nice atmosphere with food and drinks.

 

PALM BEACH

Palm Beach is located between the palms and mangroves trees of the Kotu Creek and offers 24 hours front desk, garden, terrace, karaoke, dart and a beachfront which also has a private beach for customers.

 

SUNSET BEACH HOTEL

This hotel has laid back atmosphere with beautiful tropical gardens and a beachfront. They also have an outdoor pool, sun terrace with tanning beds and umbrellas and provide free parking for customers.

 

KOMBO BEACH

Looking for true Gambian hospitality? This hotel which sets on the sandy beaches of Kotu provides excellent facilities, cuisine and entertainment.  Their Barracuda beach bar which is located between the beach and garden has an ocean view terrace and offers food and drinks from 11 am till 9 pm. They offer a lot of activities for children and adults alike including tennis, pentaquin, croquet, water aerobics, badminton and also has giant chess for its customers.

 

NINKI NANKA BAR AND RESTAURANT

This bar and restaurant have two lounges and a night club all located on the seafront flanked by palm trees, sunbeds, a children playground, and two outdoor restaurants serving food and drinks.

 

TANDORI RESTAURANT

This restaurant is located in the heart of the craft market serving authentic Indian foods for those having a stop on the beach or craft market.

 

 

ACTIVITIES

KOTU CRAFT MARKET

Find a good range of local crafts, quality batiks, jewellery, beads and handmade leather shoes and bags from the Kotu craft market.

 

HORSE RIDING

Explore this beach on horseback to have an exceptional experience with trained horses that will walk along with all levels from a gentle walk to fast gallop.

 

FISHING TRIPS

Join sport fishing with Viper Sport Fishing company in the waters of Gambia and enjoy a memorable day in the sea.

 

TRADITIONAL WRESTLING

Join local wrestlers around Solomon's beach bar and enjoy the traditional sport on the sandy beach.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Play volleyball around Balafon and palm beach area with locals who enjoy playing the game in the sand.

 

CYCLING

Rent bicycles opposite Badala Park with Darboe’s bicycle rental services and ride to various parts of Kotu and beyond if your love cycling.

 

BIRD WATCHING

Enjoy a bird watching experience on the Kotu creek with a boat or feet to discover the beautiful birds of the Gambia.

 

ENJOY FRESH FRUITS FROM WOMEN VENDORS ON THE BEACH

Kotu beach has a women association that sells and make delicious fruit juices and salads for people on the beach just outside the Kotu craft market.
