IMPACT
The project 500,000 Trees in 5 Years is a long-term environmental initiative focused on restoring degraded land, strengthening biodiversity and improving living conditions for local communities in The Gambia.

The idea is simple but powerful: planting trees together with communities while building awareness about environmental responsibility and sustainable land use.

This initiative is being developed in collaboration with Volunteer Trails and our partners, and the first locations are already taking shape.

CETAG in Gunjur, the Njau Project and Communities for Red Colobus Project that have already been working on tree planting, tree nurseries and reforestation for many years are part of the initiative. Their long-term experience and commitment to environmental protection provide an important foundation for the project.

Projects and communities such as Kids Are the World Nursery in Ghana Town and Kerewan Samba Sira cotton project have joined by offering space for planting and supporting the project with tree nurseries.

Another important part of the project is to mark and present these locations, so that visitors, residents and supporters can easily find them and visit the sites themselves. Our goal is to make these tree-planting areas visible and accessible, allowing travellers, volunteers and members of the diaspora to contribute directly. People will be able to visit the locations, plant a tree, support the purchase of seedlings or help with the maintenance of the planted areas.

However, to reach the goal of 500,000 trees, more communities, organisations and projects need to become part of the initiative.

We therefore invite partners who would like to support the project in one of the following ways:

• Offer space where trees can be planted and maintained
• Operate or collaborate with a tree nursery and provide seedlings
• Support the project through donations for the purchase of seedlings
• Help organise or participate in community tree-planting activities

This project is not only about planting trees. It is about creating long-term environmental responsibility, cooperation between communities and sustainable impact for future generations.

If your organisation, school, community or project would like to become part of the 500,000 Trees in The Gambia initiative, we invite you to get in touch and grow this vision together.
