Day on a pottery

Start of activity

Your activity starts in Brikama - at Sainey's Pottery studio. 

Transport to the location can be arranged for an additional price. 

What to expect

from pottery workshop

In 4 hour workshop, you will grasp the knowledge of clay art making from the first to the last step, preparation of clay, to different techniques of clay shaping - using hand method and machine method. You will create your own products, which will be later fired and ready for you to collect before leaving back to your home. 

 

End of tour

Transport can be arranged for an additional price.

Rates are per person and might vary depending on availability. Prices do not include the transport costs - please send an inquiry and once the location of workshop is confirmed we will send you a final price for the workshop.

Can we adjust the activity?

You can also decide which type of product you want to create or if you want to participate/focus more on the mechanical or hand technique of pottery. 

What is the maximum number of people for group tour?

For the workshop to be effective, the maximum number of attendees should be 6. 

Established in 1980: Saine Pottery

Saine Pottery is proud to be Gambia's first pottery studio, established in 1980. It was founded by Idirisa Saine. He travelled to many countries to learn this craft, from Norway, Indonesia, to England. He later ended up in the Gambia as the first modern potter. Saine Pottery is located at Brikama Kémbujé.

Saine's Pottery

Saine Pottery is proud to be Gambia's first pottery studio, established by Idrisa Saine in 1980. The studio is a family business, and Mr Saine's wife and children operate it. Their products are bought by people from all over the country and sold at different markets. They produce flower pots, animal statues, wall tiles made of clay, floor tiles, incense burners, and more.
