Every Child Deserves a Chance – About iPromise with Doreen Dia

PEOPLE
In The Gambia, a powerful movement is reshaping the way we think about education. The iPromise Learning & Development Centre, founded by Doreen Dia, is the first and only school in the country dedicated entirely to children aged 2 to 17 with learning difficulties and disabilities.

In a society where children with special needs are often overlooked or misunderstood, iPromise stands as a beacon of hope—not just for the children it serves, but for their families and communities as well. The centre offers a safe, nurturing environment where every child receives tailored education, emotional support, and opportunities to grow at their own pace.

In a recent interview, Doreen Dia shares the emotional and practical journey behind iPromise—from the challenges of establishing the centre, to the deep passion that drives her mission. She emphasizes that education is not one-size-fits-all and highlights the transformative power of understanding, patience, and personalized learning.

What makes iPromise truly remarkable is its child-centered approach, small classroom sizes, dedicated staff, and commitment to creating real change. The centre doesn’t just teach—it empowers children to communicate, express themselves, and gain confidence in their abilities, regardless of their learning challenges.

How can you support iPromise?

Doreen and her team are working tirelessly, but they cannot do it alone. The centre depends on donations and community support to provide learning materials, pay qualified teachers, and improve the learning environment.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Make a donation to help cover educational materials, meals, therapy tools, and salaries.
  • Sponsor a child’s education, giving them the chance to receive specialized support.
  • Partner with the centre as an organization or individual to raise awareness.
  • Share their story by watching and forwarding the video to others who believe in inclusive education.

When we support inclusive education, we build a better future—not just for children with learning differences, but for all of us.
