APS Wallet: The Future of Payments in The Gambia

TIPS
Over the past months, APS Wallet has moved from being “just” a digital wallet to becoming a key player in football, entertainment, trade fairs, school support and everyday payments. For many Gambians, it is now the easiest way to skip queues, go cashless, and stay in control of their money.

Football First: How APS Wallet Changed the Nawettan Experience

If you attended Nawettan games this year, you probably noticed: less chaos at the gates, fewer paper tickets, more order and more smiles.

APS Wallet stepped into the heart of Gambian football by sponsoring 12 Nawettan zones across the country and introducing full e-ticketing for matches. Zones such as Brikama, Serekunda West, Sanyang, Kombo East, Esseu, Basse and others partnered with APS to modernise how tickets are sold and controlled.

For fans, this means:

  • Buy your ticket on your phone – even before leaving home
  • Enjoy discounted ticket prices when paying via APS Wallet
  • No more long queues or pushing at the gate
  • No risk of lost or torn tickets – everything is stored in your app

For sports committees, it brings:

  • Real-time ticket sales tracking
  • Transparent audit trails and easier reporting
  • Less cash handling and better control at the gate

Trade Fairs, Finals and Festivals: 100% Digital Access

At the Banjul International Trade Fair, APS Wallet pushed digitalisation one step further by powering 100% digital ticketing:

  • Tickets sold exclusively via APS Wallet
  • No cash payments at the gate
  • Quick QR-code scanning for entry

This approach reduces ticket fraud, speeds up entry, and gives organisers a clear, digital overview of attendance. For visitors, it simply feels more organised and modern – one app, one scan, and you are in.

What’s New Inside the APS Wallet App?

Beyond events and sponsorships, APS has quietly rolled out a set of features that make everyday money management easier, more rewarding, and more inclusive.

1. E-Ticketing for Football and Events

Under the “Tickets” section in the app, users can now:

  • Browse upcoming football matches, shows, and fairs
  • Purchase tickets in a few taps
  • Keep all tickets in one place on their phone

No risk of losing physical tickets and no need to arrive hours early “just to get a place”.

2. Send Money to Any Mobile Number

You can now send money instantly to any mobile number, even if the recipient doesn’t have an APS Wallet account yet. For the sender, it is quick and secure. For the receiver, it is an easy introduction into digital payments – and a first step into the APS ecosystem.

3. 1% Cashback on Airtime Top-Up

Every time you buy airtime through APS Wallet, you receive 1% cashback. It’s a simple, automatic way to get something back on a purchase you make regularly anyway – especially useful for people who top up often for work, business calls or family.

4. Refer & Earn – Turning Connections Into Cash

The Refer & Earn programme gives users the chance to turn their network abroad into real earnings:

  • Invite someone in the diaspora to send money via APS Money Transfer
  • Whenever a new sender abroad transfers GMD 3,000 or more into an APS Wallet
  • You earn GMD 1,500 – instantly

With just ten successful referrals, a user can earn GMD 15,000. Some are using this to support school fees or to move closer to a savings goal.

5. Bank-to-Wallet Transfers

For salary earners, you can have access to your money anywhere, anytime after receiving your salary.

Back to School and Back to Community

The Back to School Giveaway from July to September rewarded 250 winners with cash and school-related prizes whenever they received APS Money Transfer into their APS Wallet.

Combined with their ongoing presence at community football tournaments across the country, APS Wallet’s work goes beyond digital features. It sits at the intersection of social support, financial inclusion and digital innovation, helping families and communities move forward together.
