The CETAG team has informed My Gambia that one of the monitored nests is showing strong signs of hatching. If the hatchlings emerge as expected, the release is planned for Saturday, 26 September 2026, at 6:45 PM at CETAG Turtle Village in Gunjur.

Members of the public are welcome to attend and witness the young turtles beginning their journey into the Atlantic Ocean.

For visitors to The Gambia, a turtle release is also an opportunity to learn more about the conservation work taking place along the country's coastline. CETAG has been actively involved in protecting sea turtles, monitoring nesting sites and raising awareness about threats to marine life.

My Gambia recently joined CETAG for another release in Gunjur, when more than 90 baby turtles were safely released into the ocean. Moments like these show why environmental conservation and responsible tourism can—and should—go hand in hand.

As this is a natural process, the exact timing cannot be guaranteed. The release will take place if the hatchlings emerge as expected.
