2 Continents, 1 Runway

“2 Continents, 1 Runway” recently took place at Kombo Beach Resort, bringing together fashion, culture and diplomacy in celebration of The Gambia’s 61st Independence Anniversary.

The concept for the event was developed by Gambian fashion house Yaws Creations, which envisioned a platform connecting Gambian and Turkish culture through fashion, performance and creative exchange. The Embassy of Türkiye in The Gambia later joined the initiative as a sponsoring and collaborating partner, together with the İzmir Olgunlaşma Enstitüsü, helping bring the vision to life.

The runway became a meeting point of heritage and contemporary design, showcasing creativity from both sides. Office of the First Lady The Gambia, Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, alongside Türkiye’s Ambassador Fahri Türker Oba, spoke about the importance of cultural diplomacy and international partnership.

Designers from both countries presented cross-continental creations, with Yaws Creations proudly representing Gambian talent while also playing a key role in shaping the concept behind the cultural exchange on the runway.

A standout moment of the evening was a Gambian dance group performing the traditional Turkish horon, a powerful symbol of unity through culture and movement.

An inspiring celebration of independence, identity and friendship — truly two continents, one runway.
