What started as a conversation soon turned into something much bigger.

Camila visited Volunteer Trails' projects, met the founders, spent time at the charity nursery school, and saw firsthand the realities many Gambian children face every day. She met children full of curiosity, joy, and potential. She also saw the challenges their families face. Many of the children come from disadvantaged households, and some grow up without reliable access to electricity, running water, or other basic necessities that many of us take for granted.

But despite these challenges, their parents are eager to bring their children to learn so their future might be different from theirs.

Deeply moved by what she experienced, Camila wanted to do something that would have a lasting impact. Rather than focusing on a short-term solution, she chose to invest in education.

Her goal is simple but powerful: to raise enough funds to support 35 children who will begin attending Kids Are The World nursery school in the 2026/27 academic year. The funds will help cover school fees and contribute towards daily meals throughout summer camps, giving these children the opportunity to learn, grow, and start their educational journey with dignity and hope.

For many families, even the smallest educational expense can be beyond reach. For a child, however, access to nursery education can be life-changing. It provides a safe environment, early learning opportunities, daily meals, social development, and a stronger foundation for future schooling.

At Volunteer Trails The Gambia, we have seen countless times how education changes lives. We have watched children grow from shy nursery pupils into confident students pursuing their dreams. Every child deserves that opportunity.
