The restaurant's name, Vibrations, is brought to life in a visually captivating manner, exuding energy and a sense of movement. Natasha came up with this name when she was still in the UK - long before the idea of the restaurant was even conceived.
Located in Hendon Court, Vibrations enjoys a prime location that is accessible to everyone. The restaurant's interior decor is elegantly understated, featuring a palette of velvet grey accented by vibrant mustard tones. Ghanian masks grace the walls, complementing the black-marbled tables and black-grey-marbled upholstery. However, the pièce de résistance of the room is an intriguing painting at the back, beckoning guests to take a closer look. Outdoor seating areas at the front and back cater to those who prefer dining amidst nature's beauty.
Natasha and Greg Millwood, residents of the UK and the masterminds behind Vibrations were seeking a change of pace and a more peaceful environment. They made the bold decision to relocate to The Gambia three years ago despite never having visited the country before. This leap of faith was driven by a desire for a complete lifestyle change and a serene place to call home.
Natasha's culinary journey took a significant turn eight years ago when her grandmother's passing prompted her to reassess her dietary choices. This life-altering event spurred her transition to veganism, a decision that would eventually pave the way for Vibrations. What started as cooking for friends garnered such rave reviews that Natasha was inspired to share her vegan creations with a broader audience. Leveraging the power of social media, she began taking orders for her delectable vegan dishes, which quickly gained popularity among vegans and non-vegans alike in The Gambia's budding vegan scene. Madiba Mall in Brufut was not conveniently located for everyone. After two years of serving her customers exclusively through takeaway, Natasha decided, based on the requests of her loyal clientele, to relocate her restaurant to a more central area. This change allows customers the option to dine in rather than solely offering takeaway services.
Despite the challenges of sourcing certain ingredients, Natasha is committed to using fresh, locally sourced produce, with over 80% of Vibrations' ingredients being locally sourced. This supports local businesses and ensures the dishes are flavoured and nutritious. Natasha's menu at Vibrations is a fusion of her grandmother's cherished recipes and her culinary innovations, crafted with an emphasis on flavour and nutritional balance. The menu is ever-evolving, with daily offerings of four to five options for main courses, sides, and juices, ensuring that each visit promises a new and exciting culinary experience.
Greg is the creative mind behind the exotic and healthy juices offered at Vibrations, including Kaia juice, Beetroot and ginger, Spirulina and cucumber, Seamoss with pineapple, moringa blast, sorrel juice, and lots more.
We enjoyed sampling Vibrations' signature dishes during our visit, including the Chickpea Wrap, Coconut Curry Lentils, and Lentil Ballinase. Served with fresh, crunchy salad and brown rice, these dishes were a delightful blend of flavours and textures, showcasing Natasha's culinary expertise. The lentil balls, pan-fried to perfection, were a particular highlight.
Natasha is more than happy to recommend suitable dishes for those with dietary restrictions, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the Vibrations experience.
Natasha's commitment to providing a diverse and nutritious menu is evident in her attention to detail, as she continuously explores new recipes to keep the menu fresh and exciting.
