CIFF serves as a platform to promote The Gambia’s audio-visual sector, foster creativity, and create opportunities for aspiring filmmakers. The SJDM was selected as the hosting partner for the annual event, reflecting its dedication to developing local talent and building connections with the global film community.
The opening day, showcased the determination of Gambians to carve a space for themselves in the creative industries. Students from SJDM, specializing in Film Studies, Broadcasting, Media Law & Ethics, and related disciplines, played an instrumental role in organizing the festival. The event provided them with an invaluable opportunity to engage with the industry through internships, community outreach, and masterclasses offered as part of the festival’s programming.
CIFF highlights the importance of storytelling as a tool for cultural preservation and societal dialogue. The films screened on the opening day included a mix of short features and documentaries, each offering unique insights into local stories, traditions, and contemporary issues.
This partnership between CIFF and SJDM reflects the shared goal of strengthening The Gambia’s creative industries while expanding opportunities for young people aspiring to careers in film and media. Organizers aim for the festival to serve as a catalyst for increased collaboration between local talent and international film educators, paving the way for future editions to have a broader impact and visibility.
The festival continues with screenings and discussions on December 7, 8, 13, and 14, with free entry to all events. It provides an inclusive space for students, filmmakers, and film lovers to exchange ideas and celebrate the growth of Gambian cinema.
