The British International School of The Gambia (BISG) celebrated International Day 2024 with great enthusiasm and community spirit on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the school's premises. The event, which brought together students, parents, and the wider community, was a vibrant showcase of the rich diversity of cultures represented by its students.

Students enjoyed free entry to the event, while all other attendees contributed a nominal entrance fee of GMD50. Food stalls were a major highlight, featuring both local Gambian cuisine and international dishes. Visitors could indulge in a delightful array of pastas, cakes, and exquisite desserts, alongside traditional Gambian dishes such as Ebbeh reflecting the rich culinary tapestry of the community. Visitors could also purchase stationery, plants, Gambian organic foods and a variety of Gambian hand-made products such as handbags, lamps, and costume jewellery, all crafted from vibrant African print fabrics showcasing the artistic talents and cultural heritage of local artisans. Raffle tickets were also on sale, adding an element of excitement and the chance to win prizes.

A significant aspect of the event was the participation of students dressed in their traditional outfits. This colourful display of cultural attire represented various countries and tribes, highlighting the school's multicultural environment. It was a visual feast, with children proudly wearing costumes that reflected their heritage and traditions.

The event also featured a variety of games and face painting for children, ensuring that the young attendees were entertained throughout the day. A specially designed backdrop provided a perfect spot for taking photos, allowing attendees to capture memories of the occasion. The cloudy and cooler weather was a welcome bonus, making it comfortable for everyone to enjoy the festivities without the intense heat typical of the season.

Music played a crucial role in elevating the atmosphere of the International Day. The air was filled with the vibrant sounds of the best hip-hop music, which added to the excitement and kept the energy levels high. The teachers and other staff also enjoyed themselves immensely, engaging with both the children and their parents.

Bright white tents with tables and chairs were arranged, offering a comfortable spot for attendees to savour their meals or rest their legs. The school lane was cordoned off to vehicles, creating a safe and pedestrian-friendly zone for students to roam freely.

To sum it up, the International Day at BISG was a lively and well-organized event, with every detail meticulously attended to, ensuring a fun-filled experience for all. It celebrated cultural diversity, fostered community spirit, and provided a platform for showcasing the talents and traditions of its international student body. The event marked another milestone in the school's commitment to promoting global understanding and unity.
