This grand event, organized by Africell and offered free of charge to the public, also featured a stellar lineup of artists. Big Faa, Hussain Dada, Nyancho, Uchee, Awa Gambia, Attack, and Jizzle took to the stage, their performances setting the crowd ablaze with energy and joy. Yet, amidst the musical brilliance, Africell had a secret surprise in store that would elevate the evening to historic heights.
But as the night unfolded, Africell had a surprise up its sleeve that left the audience in sheer awe. In collaboration with Botlab Dynamics, an Indian tech marvel based in Delhi, Africell introduced Gambia's first-ever drone light show. Botlab Dynamics, known for its cutting-edge aerial animations, had flown in a team specifically for this event. As 300 drones ascended into the night sky, they painted dazzling images and patterns, transforming the skies into a canvas of light. The spectators were spellbound, their eyes wide with wonder, as they witnessed a spectacle unlike anything they had seen before.
This breathtaking show was not Africell’s first venture into drone entertainment. Earlier in January, Africell had made waves by organizing Angola's biggest drone show on Luanda Day, celebrating a milestone of 6 million subscribers. The success of that event set the stage for The Gambia’s grand celebration, marking another achievement of reaching 2 million subscribers. Africell's partnership with Botlab Dynamics once again proved to be a masterstroke.
Botlab Dynamics is no stranger to the skies of Africa. Besides Angola and The Gambia, they have mesmerized audiences in Djibouti and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The team, passionate about their craft and delighted by their African adventures, expressed hope to continue spreading joy across the continent.
Founded by Tanmay Bunkar, an alumnus of the prestigious IIT Delhi, Botlab Dynamics has a remarkable story. India, unable to import drones, inspired Tanmay to build his own. Joined by fellow IITian Anuj Kumar Barnwal and Dr. Sarita Ahlawat, a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Illinois, the trio embarked on a journey that began with their first drone in 2012. BotLab Dynamics was officially incorporated in July 2016 at IIT Delhi’s Technology Business Incubator Unit. With a strong focus on research and development, Botlab has crafted an entire fleet of drones in-house, setting new standards in drone technology.
Botlab Dynamics is a pioneer in vertical drone light shows in India. They made headlines by hosting India's largest drone light show with 1,000 drones in January 2022. Following this, they set another world record with Africa’s largest drone light show in Djibouti for their 45th Independence Day celebrations. Most recently, in March 2024, Botlab made history again by flying 5,000 drones in perfect formation for a grand pre-wedding celebration of Mukesh Ambani's youngest son, showcasing their technological prowess on an international stage.
Botlab Dynamics aims to replace traditional fireworks with drone light shows, offering a cleaner, more environmentally friendly alternative. Their mission is to bring joy and unforgettable experiences to audiences while reducing pollution. With an average employee age of just 24, the company embodies youthful innovation and creativity.
