Your journey starts in the morning with a drive from Senegambia to Kuloro. As you arrive at Kuloro, you'll embark on a short boat ride to Baobab Island, a place that is as unique as its name suggests. The island is home to a vast collection of baobab trees known for their distinctive appearance and medicinal properties. Here, you can take a break and enjoy snacks and coffee while admiring the island's beauty.
Afterwards, you'll continue your journey to Sita Joyeh, where you'll have the chance to take a boat trip to Makasutu. The journey takes you along the mangrove-lined river, showcasing the region's natural beauty and wildlife. Once you arrive at Makasutu, you can take a forest walk and experience the tranquillity of the forest, visit a fortune teller or a palm wine tapper, and have a unique and exciting experience. The fortune teller can give you insights into your future, while the palm wine tapper can give you a taste of the local beverage that has been enjoyed for centuries.
After visiting Makasutu, we will take a boat trip back to Sita Joyeh. From there, we will head to Baobab Island Lodge for a delicious lunch and some time to explore the nearby nature.
No trip to The Gambia is complete without experiencing the country's vibrant cultural scene. That's why we can arrange for a djembe drumming group to perform for you on Baobab Island. This energetic performance will surely get your toes tapping and your heart racing.
Next, you will take a short drive to Galloya village, where we will tour the colourful village. The murals in Galloya village represent local culture and history, depicting scenes from everyday life, historical events, and religious ceremonies. They are painted in bright, bold colours and are a testament to the artistic skills of the local people. The murals are a source of pride for the village, and they attract visitors from all over the world who come to admire their beauty and learn about the local culture. This is also a unique opportunity to get a glimpse into the daily lives of the locals and learn about their traditions and customs.
Finally, we will return to Senegambia, where you can relax and reflect on your unforgettable journey through The Gambia. This one-day trip has everything from stunning landscapes to vibrant culture.
You can adjust your trip as a private tour. With the group tour slight adjustments are possible.
This trip requires light to moderate activity.
We recommend bringing sun protection (headwear, long, lightweight clothes, sunglasses, sun cream) and mosquito repellents. Ensure you bring enough water (you can also buy it on the way) and some snacks if you get hungry quickly.
The trip is organised by the Insitute of Travel and Tourism of The Gambia (ITTOG) in collaboration with Ninki Nanka Encounters (NNE).
ITTOG specialises in hands-on training mainly in the Travel and Tourism sectors with special emphasis on travel agency, tour operations, tour guiding, ground operations, events management, entrepreneurship/business skills development, responsible/sustainable tourism, community-based tourism, and general tourism business management.
