The Junior Department of the Academy, founded in 2015, operates as a pilot program with 36 students, preparing for its future expansion to accommodate up to 300 junior and senior students.

Currently located in a temporary space near the main campus, the school boasts ample grounds, outdoor classrooms, and easy access to the beach, allowing for a unique and engaging learning environment. This setting enables the refinement of a progressive curriculum designed to open at the new campus by the end of 2021.

At the core of the Academy’s philosophy is a commitment to transforming traditional education by prioritizing active learning. The school’s curriculum emphasizes practical, real-world engagement, aiming to develop critical thinking, self-determination, and empowerment in students.

In addition to core subjects like Mathematics, Literacy, Science, and History, the Academy incorporates Music and Dance, Agriculture, Poultry, and Capoeira to promote holistic development.

The Academy also emphasizes the importance of community involvement in education. Through the development of a comprehensive teacher training resource kit, Sona Jobarteh is working to create sustainable change in the education sector by empowering local educators.

The Academy actively seeks volunteers to contribute to the curriculum and help build resources for subjects such as English, Maths, and History, which will ultimately impact the wider educational landscape in the region.
