Nature lovers, birdwatchers and eco-tourism enthusiasts can look forward to one of the most exciting environmental events in The Gambia. The West African Birdfair & Ecotourism Conference will return from 11 to 13 December 2026 at Dalaba Ecolodge in Gunjur village, bringing together conservationists, researchers, tourism professionals and visitors who share a passion for nature.

Recognised as The Gambia’s main birding event, the three-day gathering goes far beyond birdwatching. The programme is designed as an interactive experience that allows participants to explore the country’s rich biodiversity while learning more about conservation and sustainable tourism.

Visitors can expect a weekend full of engaging activities including interactive exhibitions and presentations, local vendors showcasing their products, marine science and conservation activities, bird tours and nature field trips, as well as bird surveys and citizen science initiatives. These activities give participants the opportunity to observe wildlife, contribute to research and gain a deeper understanding of the ecosystems that make The Gambia a renowned birding destination.

The event is organised by Eco Travel Gambia, a non-profit initiative working to promote conservation and eco-tourism. As the conference relies largely on member contributions, the organisers are currently inviting partners and sponsors to support the event. Sponsors will benefit from visibility through logo placement on conference T-shirts, social media promotion, speaking opportunities during the event and a complimentary booth to present their products or services.

With its unique mix of nature exploration, community engagement and environmental education, the West African Birdfair & Ecotourism Conference continues to highlight The Gambia’s reputation as one of Africa’s most accessible and rewarding destinations for birdwatching and eco-tourism.
