ABOUT Volunteer in environmental protection

Volunteering experience in Gunjur is a great opportunity to combine spending time with the local community and learning about the way of life, religion and traditions, to gain basic knowledge of one of the local languages and to give back to the world by engaging in environmental activities in one of the most environmental-aware communities in The Gambia.

FAQ

How long can I volunteer?

You can join us for a day, stay for one week or even long-term volunteering. It depends on you!

Is this experience suitable for families?

This trip is suitable for families with kids older than 5 years. We have very positive experiences with families coming for this type of travel. The kids were the ones who enjoyed the most.

How demanding is the experience?

The volunteering experience in the field can be quite exhaustive due to the heat and a smaller amount of physical work. You will however have enough time to recover your strength.

How can I prepare myself?

Pack everything you need for your basic needs. We recommend having a Gambian SIM number, as accessibility to the internet is sometimes a problem. We also recommend bringing a power bank. Make sure you pack mosquito repellents, trekking covered shoes and comfortable wear.

Interview with environmental activist Ahmed Manjang

Ahmed Manjang is one of the most faithful environmental activists in The Gambia. Coming from the settlement of Gunjur, which is located in the most southern part of the Gambia, he has been involved in many conservation programs and is also a member of few different organisations which are trying to create an impact in the field of eco-tourism and sustainable development.
