Your destination:
In the morning hours, we set off on a journey towards the country's interior. The pleasant route offers us many opportunities to observe the countryside. Local villages, thatched roofs and fences made of stakes or reeds near the mosque and, in some places, schools and authentic sub-savanna vegetation conjure up an image of authentic Africa.
Our destination is Kafuta, a small village in the Lower River Region, about 50 km away from the tourist-concentrated area.
After a warm welcome from your host, you will have time to settle in your lodge and relax in the blissful garden of the Good Vibes Eco Lodge.
After lunch, your guide and boat captain will guide you to the river bank, from where you will board a boat.
The boat ride will start from the riverside beach that is just 70 meters from Good Vibes. Breathe in the fresh sea air as the crew paddles you downriver. See the mangroves, beautiful birds and maybe even a crocodile or two!
We will make our way to a neighbouring village where you will have a chance to get out of the boat, stretch your legs and explore a bit.
After our visit, we will head back to Good Vibes and enjoy local juice or coffee/tea and a homemade dessert.
This boat ride is perfect for bird watchers, nature lovers, and those that seek peace on the waters.
In the evening, you will be able to enjoy the sounds of nature surrounding you. If the night is chilly, the campfire will warm you up as you embrace the authentic way of living,
After breakfast, it's time to go exploring the surrounding.
Explore the village, meet the locals and learn about their daily lives and local culture. On the walking tour, we will visit a traditional family compound, learn how to make Attaya tea and enjoy drinking it while hearing about village life. We welcome you to ask questions!
Our next stop on tour will be our primary school. Tour the facilities, meet with some teachers and students, and even have a short Mandinka lesson!
Try out your new Mandinka skills as we continue our tour through the village and meet different people along the way. Visit a village tailor, stop in a local shop, see the marketplace if the timing is right, and make any stops of interest along the way.
After lunch, let us take you on a magical bush walk. Feel the energy of this special land we call home. Hear about the ancient rituals that have taken place here as we journey through mangroves by the riverside and the lush jungle.
When we reach one of our favourite enormous Cotton Silk Trees, we will sit for a cup of bush tea. Listen to a magical tale from days of old that involves mystical creatures and events that happened right where we visit.
From there, we will visit the Bee Man and the forest he protects. You will see birds, monkeys and other wildlife along the way.
Finally, we will return to Good Vibes for local juice and a bush snack. Bush life is nice! Come experience it!
We head back to the coastal area in the early evening hours.
Your stay in Good Vibes Eco Lodge can go according to your desires. Let us know your wishes and we will prepare a tailor-made experience for you.
The trip is easy to moderate. The most activity expected from you is when you have to board a boat. It will include walking, but there will be no demanding activity.
We recommend bringing sun protection (headwear, long, lightweight clothes, sunglasses, sun cream) and mosquito repellents. Make sure you bring enough water (you can also buy it on the way) and some snacks if you get hungry quickly. Pack everything you need for a one-night stay. We recommend comfortable wear.
Our offerings will allow you to get a feeling for the real Gambia. They are a great way to see and explore villages, local life, nature and wildlife. Depending on your interests, we have something for everyone and can even design a tour specifically for you!
Community based tourism is very important to us and we celebrate our connections not only within our village but also with surrounding villages.
We want to give our lodge guests and day visitors a great authentic experience. Our aim is to develop tourism that can help sustain our village members without damaging the environment. It's all about sustainability for us! By joining with us you are directly helping local people.
We do believe it's time for another adventure. Don't spend all of your time in The Gambia in one place. Go out and explore! There are so many beautiful experiences waiting for you. Let us help you pick one - and take care of all the rest.
