Weather in September

My Magazine 2022/09
1 min
September is one of the rainiest months of the rainy season, although the season is slowly coming to an end. It is one of the rainiest months of the year. In September, we can expect up to ¼ of the yearly precipitation. This is one of the months when the Gambia is boosted with the greenery. You will witness rain showers, which could eventually lead to flash floods or mudslides. It is never too bad to have an extra T-shirt or pair of pants in your bag if you are out for the day.

Temperature-wise, September is similar to August with its temperatures from 23 to 31 °C and an average of 26°C. At night, temperatures can drop as low as 22°C. September is still one of the months with the highest UV index. Sun is most intense from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can occasionally feel a light breeze, especially in the coastal area, but it is infrequent and doesn't help much in cooling down. Up the country, temperatures are even higher, and there is a bigger chance of rain. There are 16 rainy days expected throughout the whole month, and 275 mm of rain is predicted. This month, the showers will not spoil your holiday in the Gambia as raindrops for a few hours and stops. Because of the humidity percentage, which is above 80 %, the real-feel temperature is around 42 °C in the shade and up to 8 °C higher in the direct sunlight. There are 8 hours of sunshine and 12 hours of daylight. Sunset is after 7 p.m. Because of the high air temperatures, sea temperatures are one of the highest in the year – the average is 26 to 28 °C.

In September, consider accommodations with air conditions or fans when coming to The Gambia. Bring light clothes and sunscreen with a high factor.
