Spend a winter volunteering in The Gambia

My Magazine 2022/12
4 min
DO YOU PREFER WARM OR COLD WINTER? While temperatures in some European countries will drop close to zero soon, The Gambia will have a pleasant +30°C. Temperatures will only drop to 29°C in January and not below 23-25°C in February and March.

Suppose you have ever considered going to your chosen destination and volunteering there or maybe “reinforcing” your studies with knowledge abroad. In that case, we invite you to join our program in The Gambia.

Do you think you are too old or too young for that? You are not!

Travel as a Volunteer program was established with the aim of creating opportunities for volunteer work without special restrictions. Therefore, the program favours diversity and is the best opportunity for volunteers of different age groups, areas of interest, and nationalities.

Whether you are a high school or a college student, employed, unemployed or a retired worker, travelling alone, with your partner or a family – we have something for everyone.

Are you worried you have no prior experience or specific knowledge? Don't be. The majority of our programs do not require special qualifications, except for knowledge of the English language and willingness to work under sustainable and responsible rules of our organization.

You can choose from different programs

You can work individually or opt for a program led by our coordinators and locals. When choosing a program that fits your needs, you can also adapt the duration of your trip and the type of accommodation.

Are you ready to experience a whole new way of travelling? Yes?

Now, how to begin, you ask? First, choose the date and area you would like to work in and then send an e-mail info@travelasvolunteer.com.

In what areas can you volunteer?

  • assistance to teachers in the local kindergarten
  • building fences and children's playground (available based on acquired funds)
  • maintenance work, landscaping
  • in various departments of a local hospital
  • in physiotherapy
  • clinical laboratory
  • turtle protection (depending on the season)
  • planting trees, cleaning the beach, raising environmental protection awareness, etc.
  • animal welfare assistance (veterinary)
  • photography and media production
  • creating content for social networks
  • individual learning assistance
  • learning mathematics and English (primary and secondary schools)

What will your experience be like?

Just like you are.
As you get closer to the idea of travel and volunteering in The Gambia, you will be able to come across different opinions about this type of travel.

According to some, this is a modern way of tourism, and others see this as the best possible way to connect with the locals and do something good for themselves and this world on their journey. Some will direct you that you only should volunteer in your local community or country, while others will encourage you that humanitarianism has no boundaries. Some admire our work; some criticize it.

More than others' opinions, both positive and negative, your “intention” and your view of the world is important for such a journey and experience.

If you can always find good things in people and situations, then Travel as a Volunteer will be an unforgettable experience, a “game-changer” in your life, inspiration for work and life and a beneficial journey for you.
If you are a “seeker” of bad things, believe us, you can find them in every situation, country, organization, and person.

Trust us; your experience will be just as unique as you are.

It is essential that we all look at life through our eyes, experiences, and frustrations, and we all carry the suitcase of the past with us. Therefore, let’s be good, look for qualities in people, show understanding and support each other, because that way, the world is more beautiful for all of us.
