My Magazine 2022/05
2 min
Wonjo is a local sweetened healthy, and refreshing juice made from the hibiscus. It is quick and easy to make and very affordable.

Wonjo has a lot of health benefits. It is suitable for regulating blood pressure and reducing hypertension. It is also rich in vitamin C, which helps to boost the immune system.

INGREDIENTS

  • Hibiscus
  • Peppermint (optional)
  • Essence (preferable strawberry)
  • Sugar

PREPARATION

First, wash the dried hibiscus and the peppermint leaves thoroughly to remove any sand and dirt.

Then put it in the pot, add water and bring it to a boil. Leave it to simmer for some time.

Remove it from the fire/gas and sieve it into a bowl.

Return the sieved hibiscus and mint to the pot, add more water and boil again until all the flavour is drained of the hibiscus and peppermint.

Sieve again and add sugar and essence to the taste.

Put in the refrigerator to cool down. The cold drink is then ready to be served.

Note: There are various methods used to make this drink. You can boil the hibiscus, add warm water to it, or just soak it overnight.
