Growing Green Communities: Beach Cleaning Volunteers

My Magazine 2022/06
3 min
Growing Green Communities aims to actively bring together communities to work towards a greener future. We are looking for more volunteers to join this movement and work together to make Gambia a cleaner and greener place!!

GGC began cleaning Gambian beaches in May 2021 and to this date have organised a total of 64 beach cleans. We have 4 team leaders which run regular cleanups in Kartong, Tujering, Bijilo and Leybato beaches every 2 Saturdays.

Interested in joining one of these groups?
Then we can't wait to meet you!!

Our aim is to be consistent with our actions and grow a team of committed volunteers.
Everyone is welcome... from children to adults and even furry friends, we want everyone to enjoy themselves whilst making a difference!

After 1 year, we have picked up a mountain of waste, including: Plastic bottles, straws, cups, bags, fishing gear, buckets, polystyrene, cigarettes, tyres, cans etc… however after only 1 hour most of this has been collected wherever the beach cleaners go. And with more effort, education and consistency, we hope to see less of this as time goes on!

So, spend your Saturday doing good whilst enjoying time at the beach with like-minded people. All you need to do is meet at one of the designated meeting points by 10am, bring your water bottle and we will provide the gloves and the bags... get in touch to know more on +220 3785024
